On June 20, the International Relations Program of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Caucasus International University organized the Student Scientific Conference - “From Nicaea to Westphalia: The Transformation of Church-State Relations”. The event was dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea.
The event was opened by Kakhaber Kordzaia, Caucasus International University Rector, who placed emphasis on the importance of holding a conference on this topic and wished each participant a productive working day. Additionally, the audience was addressed by Alika Guchua, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Head of the Bachelor’s Educational Program in International Relations, and Vakhtang Maisaia, Head of the Master’s Educational Program in International Relations and International Security / Head of the Master’s Educational Program in Global Politics and Security Studies (in English). The conference participants were also welcomed by the Archpriest of the Holy Trinity Patriarchate of Tbilisi, Archimandrite Ioane Mchedlishvili, who highlighted the significance of the issue.
As part of the conference, Giorgi Pareshishvili, the conference moderator, Advisor to CIU Rector, Doctor of Political Science, Associate Professor delivered a plenary report on the topic: “From Nicaea to Westphalia: Institutional Continuity and the Transformation of Political Authority.”
The students of the Bachelor’s Educational Program in International Relations delivered presentations at the conference and they were divided into two sessions. Each presentation was evaluated by the session committee consisting of the following members: Session Chair - Alika Guchua - Doctor of Political Science, Associate Professor, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Head of the Bachelor of International Relations program; Members - Ketevan Shoshiashvili - Doctor of History, Associate Professor, Coordinator of Doctoral Programs at CIU; Marine Ugulava - Doctor of Political Science, Coordinator of School-Educational Projects at CIU Public Relations Service; Giorgi Pareshishvili - Doctor of Political Science, Associate Professor, Advisor to CIU Rector.
Towards the end of the conference, all participants were awarded certificates.
