A state-of-art inter-university Translational Neuroscience Research Laboratory has officially opened at Tbilisi State University. The initiative is a result of a strategic collaboration between Tbilisi State University, Caucasus International University, and Grigol Robakidze University.
“We are gathered here today not only to celebrate the successful completion of one of our most successful educational projects, but also to highlight the strength of genuine academic collaboration”.
“Strengthening the teaching of neuroscience, as one of the most complex and dynamic fields, was a great and ambitious task for medical education in our country, and we, three independent universities: Tbilisi State University, Grigol Robakidze University, and Caucasus International University, were able to synthesize our strengths, resources, and vision into a single goal,” stated Kakhaber Kordzaia, Rector of Caucasus International University, at the laboratory opening event.
The laboratory allows interested researchers, together with students, to explore various aspects of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the nervous system.
“Today, we have successfully developed an integrated foundational course in neuroscience, introduced innovative teaching methodologies, and established an inter-university research hub that brings together students, researchers, and academic professionals. In addition, a structured doctoral program is currently under development, and the teaching of clinical neurology has already commenced in a completely new, science-based format.
This project clearly demonstrates that coordinated, collaborative efforts can lead to structural and sustainable transformation—a transformation that will not only benefit students but will also be felt throughout both academic and clinical systems in the years to come” – noted Kakhaber Kordzaia.
The Translational Neuroscience Laboratory was established as part of the CIF grant project titled “Development and Implementation of a Modern Translational Neuroscience Program in Georgian Universities for the Improvement of Higher Medical Education.”
This inter-university hub brings together three institutions—Tbilisi State University, Caucasus International University, and Grigol Robakidze University. With the support of international experts, the consortium has also developed a structured doctoral program in Translational Neuroscience, designed specifically for the member universities. Once the program receives accreditation, doctoral students will conduct their research under the supervision of both Georgian and foreign co-supervisors.
The opening ceremony of the laboratory was attended by Nino Gvenetadze, Tbilisi State University Deputy Rector, Maya Bitskinashvili, Dean of TSU Faculty of Medicine, Tamar Sanikidze, Executive Director of the “Innovation, Inclusion and Quality Project – Georgia I2Q (WB), Giorgi Pareshishvili, Advisor to Rector of Caucasus International University, representatives of partner universities, professors and students.
