The presentation of the research outcomes of Caucasus International University project - Impact of Creeping Occupation on Population Flow, conducted within the framework of Science and Innovation Festival 2019 has held at National Parliamentary Library of Georgia on September 23, 2019.
The research, which was conducted within the framework of Caucasus International University Small Scientific Grant in Shida Kartli in the borderline villages, referred to 2008 Russian-Georgian War and the challenges facing the people affected by the creeping occupation.
The event was opened by Kakhaber Kordzaia, Caucasus International University Rector. He thanked the authors of the research for the implemented work as well as Shida Kartli regional administration for their support. “This research was contrived earlier than the issue of creeping occupation intensified in the country. The works have been going on for the second year, and our representatives have carried out the research at a very high level. We tried the presentation to coincide with "Science and Innovation Festival" and present its outcomes within the frame of this event” – stated Kakhaber Kordzaia.
According to Sesili Gogiberidze, head of Caucasus International University Scientific Research Department, there are frequent political statements and civic activism on the topic of occupation, though there is little scientific research conducted so far.
Nino Mindiashvili, project manager claimed that it was not easy to work in the conflict zone, they were not even able to enter one of the villages due to security issues.
After the official greeting, the report about the ongoing research and main outcomes was presented by Arina Tavakarashvili, Project Coordinator, Doctor students of Political Science Program at Caucasus International University. “This is crucial research, we place emphasis on their life, their needs and not on the things that are seen from rooms. Researching these needs is very important in starting a post-conflict resolution. So far we are far from resolving this conflict. Trust must be restored. Three components: security, economic condition, and harsh social background, if all these do not change, the process will not continue. At the beginning of the study we have taken the theoretical underpinnings that existed before us, the studies we acknowledge. The rest of our focus is on how they see this process,”- Arina Tavakarashvili stated.
The event was attended by Caucasus International University administration, academic personnel, students and other invited guests of scientific communities.
