On May 31, the historic German district of Bolnisi once again turned into a celebration of Georgian wine. The third “PDO Wine Festival” was a diverse and significantly international event this year.
Within the framework of the festival, guests had the unique opportunity to sample wines from more than 60 wineries representing various regions of Georgia. Among participants was Caucasus International University winery “Ethno Okami”, which presented three of its own wine positions at the festival: “Okami Tetri”, “Okami Tsiteli” and “Khashmi Saperavi”.
CIU winery, Ethno Okami, turned out to be quite interesting for guests—not only for the exceptional quality of its wines but also because it is the official author of the specification for the “Okami” wine with a protected designation of origin. Currently, only the white and red Okami wines are available on the market, further highlighting the distinctiveness of the brand.
Within the framework of the event, Olani Gotsiridze, the Dean of the Faculty of Viticulture and Enology of Caucasus International University, and Guram Avqopashvili, the Head of the Association “Wine Bolnisi” signed a memorandum of understanding. The document envisages future collaboration in various areas including student internships, joint research and projects. Please note that “Wine Bolnisi” unites 23 wineries from the region, each with its own production, cellars, vineyards – offering additional practice opportunities to students of CIU Faculty of Viticulture and Enology.
The event was also attended by foreign guests - wine buyers specially arrived from Italy, European experts and bloggers, as well as representatives of the tourism industry.
The festival was also accompanied by an artistic and cultural atmosphere - ancient Bolnisi, Georgian hospitality and the aromas of qvevri wine created a wonderful atmosphere that all guests will remember for a long time.
The festival was presented by the company Aremji, and was organized with the support of a number of institutions: the Winemakers’ Union “Wine Bolnisi”, Bolnisi Municipality City Hall, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the National Wine Agency, Sakpatenti and Bolnisi Agro Center.
